About

Dr Pravar Petkar is an academic and policy researcher whose work examines how political communities justify authority internally through democratic institutions and project legitimacy externally on the world stage. He holds a PhD in Law from the University of Edinburgh, an MA (Cantab) in Law from Clare College, University of Cambridge and and LLM in Public Law from the London School of Economics and Political Science. His academic research spans constitutional legitimacy, constituent power, and participatory and deliberative democracy.

Pravar’s policy work bridges these foundational themes with contemporary governance challenges. He is Head of the Strengthening Democracy Desk at the International Centre for Sustainability, where he writes on democratic reform, institutional legitimacy, and UK–India relations. His work also explores how cultural narratives intersect with democratic self-understanding and external signalling.

Pravar has appeared on panels at policy events, spoken at academic conferences and facilitated public discussion events on his work. He currently serves as one of the Co-Editors of the IACL-AIDC Blog.
